DataConverter 9.1 (2.80 meg) - Released 4/4/2007 -
This is the latest DataConverter for WN Help Desk and WN Help Desk Web.
Download MDAC - The required Microsoft Data Access
Components support files. You may already have installed these MDAC support files with another Microsoft application.
If not, you will need to download and install the MDAC support to use the DataConverter.
Using the DataConverter
After installing the MDAC support and installing the DataConverter, you are ready to convert your current database to
the new format. Use the following procedure to update your database:
- If you are running a Microsoft SQL backend database you need to create your new database on the SQL Server and
run the latest scripts to create the new data format before running the DataConverter.
- If you are running a Microsoft Access MDB file for the backend database make a local copy of the MDB file to
perform the conversion locally.
- Make sure you have a backup of your current database before beginning.
- Start the DataConverter application and click the Continue button after reading the information on the first screen.
- Select the type of source database and click Continue. The options are "A Microsoft Access MDB File" or
"A Microsoft SQL Server"
- If you selected "A Microsoft Access MDB File" you will be prompted with a dialog to locate your current MDB file. If
you selected "A Microsoft SQL Server" you will be prompted to enter the server name, database name, username, and
password for the SQL Server database.
- Select the type of destination database and click Continue.
- If you selected "A Microsoft Access MDB File" you will be prompted for the destination directory for the new MDB
file to be created in. If you selected "A Microsoft SQL Server" you will again be prompted for the SQL Server database
information for the new database.
- The DataConverter will then check your current database to generate statistics on how many records will be copied from
each table. After reviewing the statistics click OK to perform the actual data copy.
- If you selected a destination Access MDB database you will now be notified of the exact location and file name of
the new MDB file once the data copy has completed.
You are now ready to use your new database with the new version of the application.
